The Question Most Entrepreneurs Hate

“What do you do?”

Quite possibly the world’s most dreaded question.

Talk about deer in the headlights!

The pariah of questions asked at every dinner party and on that proverbial first coffee date.

Few questions put someone on the spot or on the defensive quite like it.

As a multi-passionate-hyphenate entrepreneur this question used to annoy the effffff out of me, too.

Let’s jump into storyland for a minute.

Remember the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, who sits on the magic mushroom … and he asks her all these questions and she gets more and more discombobulated & annoyed, right?!!

Here’s a smidge of the dialogue to jog your memory banks:

“Who are you …?” Says the Caterpiiler

“I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”

“What do you mean by that?” said the Caterpillar sternly. “Explain yourself!”

“I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, sir,” said Alice, “because I’m not myself, you see.”
